Top 3 Questions To Save Money On Gifts

Let’s call it selling to buy. I did it recently. In fact, as I was thinking about writing this blog post, I realized it has become the way I make big purchases. When I’m thinking about making a “new” purchase (let’s say I want to buy an Apple Watch as a Christmas present) I always ask myself 3 questions.

  1. Do I have something(s) I can sell?
Do I have an older model Apple Watch, an old phone or some video games that haven’t been played for awhile? This is money saver #1 and this can be the BIGGEST one because every dollar I get when I sell something, is a dollar I don’t have to pay on the new thing – whether I buy it at Cash Converters or buy it new. And it always surprises how many things I can find on a walk through my house. Stuff that I like, but would be willing to part with for the right price. I gather whatever I can find, look for original boxes or packaging if I have it, and take it all to Cash Converters to sell.
  2. Can I find what I’m looking to buy, gently used at Cash Converters?
Before I go to sell my items in the buy shop at Cash Converters, I look to see if they have the item I want to buy available for sale. Most of the time we have what I’m looking for, or a suitable substitution. This is always a great way to save a little to a lot of money. I’m picky, just like you. So it has to be a newer model and it has to be in very good condition. Also, coming with the original boxes/packaging is a big plus, but not required.
  3. How much more can I get, selling for store credit instead of cash?
This is always a great way to get more for what you’re selling, therefore saving more on what you’re buying. Cash Converters will almost always pay more for the items I’m selling in store credit. 10-15% more in some situations depending on the item being sold. This question is always worth asking, even if we don’t have exactly what you’re looking to buy, because we might have other gifts of interest.

So that’s it. Pretty simple, right? One, save a lot by selling unused items. Two, save more by buying used, instead of new. And three, ask for store credit when you’re selling to save even more!
